Growth Hormone

Overview

Growth hormone is a naturally occurring chemical in the body produced by the pituitary gland. Growth hormone is especially important during development, and not enough growth hormone can result in a child having short stature.

Growth hormone replacement medications are used for a variety of conditions, including growth hormone deficiencies, rare diseases, and short stature due to unknown causes. Goals of treatment can include increasing hormone levels to normal and increasing height. Many children are on this medication, but some people require life-long growth hormone replacement.
