Hepatitis C

Overview

Hepatitis C is a liver disease that is caused by a virus. The hepatitis C virus is only transmitted through direct blood-to-blood contact such as; blood transfusions, unprotected sex, sharing drug-injection equipment and/or sharing personal items such as nail clippers, razors, and toothbrushes, etc. Some people with hepatitis C have no symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they may include abdominal pain, joint pain, feeling tired, yellow skin/eyes, or dark urine. Chronic hepatitis C can lead to liver damage. Since hepatitis C may not cause symptoms, it is important to get tested.

Hepatitis C can be cured! The treatments currently available can cure most people with hepatitis C in a few months.
