Multiple Sclerosis

Overview

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that affects the central nervous system. The body's immune system attacks the central nervous system, specifically the coating on the nerve cells called myelin sheaths. When myelin sheaths are damaged the nerves are not able to send and receive messages properly. This can lead to symptoms such as walking difficulties, vision problems, fatigue, numbness/tingling, weakness, and bladder dysfunction and/or spasticity.

There is no cure for MS, but proper treatment can help to slow disease progression and improve quality of life.
