Psoriasis
Overview
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune skin disease that causes a rash with scaly patches that can be dry and itchy. Psoriasis is caused when the body's immune system becomes overactive and attacks normal tissues in the body.
While there is no cure for psoriasis, proper treatment can help you manage symptoms of the disease and greatly improve quality of life. Treatment options can include creams, ointments, ultraviolet light therapy, oral medications, and injectable medications. Goals of treatment include pain relief, clearing up skin symptoms, and maintaining daily activities.
