Psoriatic Arthritis
Overview
Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the part of joints where tendons or ligaments attach to bones (entheses). This can cause many symptoms including joint pain, stiffness, and swelling. Many people who develop PsA already have psoriasis, however some will have joint pain without skin symptoms.
While there is no cure for psoriatic arthritis, proper treatment can slow disease progression and greatly improve quality of life. Treatment options can include any combination of oral, topical, and injectable medications. Goals of treatment include pain relief, clearing up skin symptoms, and maintaining daily activities.
