Ulcerative Colitis

Overview

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects the innermost lining of the large intestine. Symptoms of UC may include abdominal pain, urgent need to have a bowel movement, and frequent, often bloody, stools.

While there is no cure for ulcerative colitis, remission is possible. Proper treatment can slow disease progression and greatly improve quality of life. Treatment options can include any combination of oral, topical, infused, and self-injected medications.
